【Article by IMICS】

Following the NCCU-SNU-UT symposium on 17 October 2024, students and faculty of the three institutions visited Speed 3D, a company focusing on Augmented Reality (AR) and associated technologies the following day.
Marvin Chiu, founder and CEO of Speed 3D, welcomed participants and briefly introduced the company. Monica Hsueh, Global Marketing Director of Speed 3D, presented the various products and cases that have been done and are in development.
The cases include AR photo booths with Taiwanese baseball teams and the creation of AR filters for global clients to create viral marketing campaigns.
Hsue also shared insights for future technology developments in marketing and branding applications, including how 3D billboards can be more widely deployed and easily managed.
In the question-and-answer session following the presentation, students from the three institutions raised questions towards how the technology could be further applied in different scenarios.
Prof Tammy Jih-Hsuan Lin, Distinguished Professor in the College of Communication of National Chengchi University, led the group and participated in experiencing the interactive photo booths of the company.
Participants from the University of Tokyo said the technology is fun and mentioned the technology demonstrated as “mature.”

On the other hand, participants from Seoul National University saw opportunities for the technology developed by the company to have widespread applications in South Korea, especially against the backdrop of fan bases of the globally widespread Korean pop culture.
The NCCU-SNU-UT symposium is held annually in rotation among the three institutions. The next edition will be held at Seoul National University.
Speed 3D, established in 2014, started with creating photo-to-avatar applications. The company then expanded into AR solutions. The company, as an official AR partner for Meta (Previously Facebook) since 2017, has been featured on F8, the predecessor of Meta Connect. The company now collaborates with companies and organizations around the world to develop AR solutions, complemented by AI technology.
