1. Academic Research

In terms of research production, 352 articles have been published under the four major categories over the past three years, including 149 in SCI/SSCI/A&HCI journals and 47 in TSSCI journals. We have also published 28 books. In addition to promoting various topics in innovation studies, we have also actively sought opportunities for cross-disciplinary, inter-university, and international cooperation, with a number of current, stable international cooperative research projects. Gathering the results of research, we held the 2012 and 2014 International Conference on Innovation Studies. Besides displaying the results of research, this conference assembled scholars in innovation studies, both from within Taiwan and abroad, for exchange.

2. Education and Cultivation of Talent
While turning practical innovation research into educational cases or educational courses over the past three years, we have completed 43 localized case studies as instructional materials. At the same time, in collaboration with Canada’s Ivey Business School, we have prepared three local case studies in English to present to the world, transforming research results into both localized and internationalized teaching materials covering the following topics: a balanced scorecard (BSC) for electronics companies, female entrepreneurs in Taiwan, and the ASUS weiya (year-end party). Further, in order to cultivate skills of competitiveness and future adaptability among students, we established the topic-focused X College. This utilized innovation resources from across universities, as National Chengchi University (NCCU) collaborated with National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) to open a Program of Creative Design in Practice. Besides this, we also host a monthly Salon, actively developing young research talent and increasing their research capabilities.

3. Industry Linkages
Combining the strengths of industry and academia to promote various industry-academia collaborative projects is a key topic in Taiwan today, as industry and academia unite for cooperative research and development. For example, we have developed the uVoyage service platform cooperatively with the ILan Digital Opportunity Center in Yilan County, while we collaborated with Funwish Travel Brochure App on FunTrip, HuayuNavi, and Plastoy App. Meanwhile, the Integrated Strategy of Value Management Systems (ISVMS), which is composed of an integration of past research results, has already been successfully trademarked in both Taiwan and China. We also developed the “JoJoSan Mobile seckilling Bokelai(books.com.tw) Application Platform,” which was created to spread information about deals and attract customers as a convenient channel for direct communication with consumers. This is done through means such as the Walking Promoter, which brings various economic benefits to businesses. We also collaborated with the National Palace Museum to explore how companies and organizations can effectively use social media or games to conduct creative marketing, and increase sales service quality, which will, with time, further allow us to more deeply understand market changes. More apps have been selected and promoted under this project, broadening and strengthening connections between industry and academia. We also participated in a Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) Technology Development Program entitled “3-Year Technology Development Program for Regional Intellectual Capital,” which worked with Yilan County as a practical base to explore a creative city/rural area development model for Yilan, which can be used as a reference for other cities and townships.

During this time, research in entrepreneurship also expanded, as we established Taiwan’s first public use micro-office, the “Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship Exchange,” known as the “International Entrepreneurship Hub” (IEH), the hub forms a successful base for highly reputed advising of Taiwanese entrepreneurship teams. Advised by Professor Wen Chao-Tung, the JUSTAPLE entrepreneurial team, received 3rd place in the 2012 Asian Entrepreneurship Award competition at the University of Tokyo in Japan.

Finally, formal publication of the Service Innovation Insights began in July of 2013. Sponsored by the Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation, it launches a series of promotional activities that will allow the general public to access relevant knowledge online.

4. International Linkages

In addition to holding international conferences or roundtable symposiums and inviting international scholars to Taiwan for exchange, we have also actively engaged in cooperative exchange with international organizations or schools. Schools with cooperative links under this project include the University College London, the University of Manchester, the University of Warwick, and the Oxford Center for Neuroethics in the U.K., the University of Potsdam in Germany, the University of Western Australia, Duke University, the University of California, Berkeley, and Syracuse University in the U.S., Meiji University in Japan, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong, and Peking University in China.

Besides this, we have also participated in international gatherings. For example, Professor Jing-Jyi Wu, PI for this project, led team members to attend the 2012 Chinese Creative Industries Forum hosted by the Macau SAR Government and run by the Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture. Having first carried out research and published reports related to talent and environment factors of the cultural and creative industries (CCI), this participation allowed for further exchange with representatives from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Europe, and the Americas. The Yilan case included development strategies from local residents for the promotion of creative city/rural areas and Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS), showcasing Taiwan’s ample innovative vitality as a reference for cities in China.

In 2013, the Service Systems Innovation and E-Commerce Research Center began formal publication of the Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, which is ranked fourth internationally in the e-commerce field (SSCI, 2011 Impact Factor = 0.75). Professor Ting-Peng Liang is Co-editor in Chief with Purdue University Professor Prabuddha De and Professors Melody Kiang and Robert Chi, both of the University of California, while Professor Soe-Tsyr Yuan is the Regional Managing Editor (Asia/Pacific ex-China). This journal is the first international academic journal in the business and management field to be listed in SSCI, and it has received support for related publishing costs from the National Science Council (NSC).
